Abstract
This repository contains all the data required to produce the figures in the research article "Lithospheric mantle density anomalies determined from lithosphere thickness and dynamic topography" by Bernhard Steinberger and Paul Strobel, published in the diamond open access journal "Geodynamica".
den_vs_depth_offset_i.d for i=1,...,5 contain the density offset introduced by setting density anomalies in the lithosphere to zero (Figure 2a) based on tomography models sl2013+grand10 (i=1), semum2+grand10 (i=2), s40rts (i=3), savani (i=4) and gypsum (i=5). den_vs_depth_ridges_i.d contain the density anomalies averaged below mid-oceanic ridges (Figure 2b) for the same models. restopo-i.d for i=1,2,3 contain the observation-based residual topography for three models (Figure S4, top row) on a grid spacing of 1 degree in both latitude and longitude. dyntopo-i.d for i=1,...5 contain the computed dynamic topography based on the same five tomography models as described above, again on a 1-degree grid, with density anomalies in the continental lithosphere set to zero (Figure S1). dyntopo-io.d for i=1,...5 is the same with densities in continental lithosphere adjusted such that they stay equal to the global mean after that adjustment (Figure S2). dyntopo_ir.d for i=1,...,5 is the same with densities in continental lithosphere set to the global mean value beneath mid-ocean ridges (Figure S3). lith-i-eq.d for i=1,...,5 contain the lithosphere thickness based on the same five tomography models, with original data published in Steinberger and Becker (2018), doi:10.1016/j.tecto.2016.08.001 but on a grid where each point corresponds to the same area on the surface of the sphere . All the plots of dynamic topography, residual topography or their difference versus lithosphere thickness are computed after interpolating dynamic and residual topography to the same equal-area grid as lithosphere thickness.
