Abstract
The carbonatites complexes of northeast India gain significance due to their spatial relationship with the plate tectonics related to the breakup of Gondwana, the drifting of the Indian plate towards the north and colliding with the Eurasian plate. These carbonatite plugs produce intense aeromagnetic anomalies due to their mafic-ultramafic nature. These are found to possess remanence by which quantitative interpretation of the magnetic anomalies due to these plugs is complicated. Here, we attempted to quantitatively analyse these anomalies using a new approach by considering the analytic signal amplitude of the vertically integrated total field magnetic intensity anomaly (ASVI) to remove the effect of remanence and inversion thereof derived a reliable and approximate source geometry from the regional aeromagnetic data. The analysis of aeromagnetic anomalies of five carbonatite complexes using 3D inversion, of which three plugs indicate an inverted funnel shape and the other two attained vertical cylindrical.
