Abstract:
In 2021, the Global Heat Flow Database underwent a major restructure from an 80-column ASCII text format to a modern relational database with 56 fields. A quality-assurance code was added in 2023. Work is ongoing under the auspices of the International Lithosphere Program to review and recompile approximately 100,000 heat flow data points from primary sources. The data compilation is part of a broader set of global programs to deliver terrestrial heat flow data through modern digital infrastructure following FAIR principles. The Australian dataset provides an example of the research value provided by the new database structure.
